Analog Devices is a leader in their field and an expert in their industry. This trust garnered by engineers was built over 50+ years of innovative product and solution creation, publishing of the longest running electrical engineering publication, and involvement in the electronics community from the youngest engineers in the FIRST program, to those seeking guidance through apprentice programs.
ADI’s electrical engineering publication, Analog Dialogue, is their pride and joy. The magazine has gone through many rebrands and technological advancements over it’s 50+ years. What has maintained is their dedication to education and clarity of concept. We on the Marketing Services team played a large role in this through clearly and consistently illustrating diagrams, figures, and equations.
Layout and type are extremely important in technical articles. A change in the flow of type and figures can alter the meaning or add confusion to complex topics. Our guidelines and templates were designed with pixel precision, the particular glyphs that must me used, the maximum and minimum allowance for tracking, and the left alignment of paragraphs that were manipulated to adjust rag which almost appeared to be justified, among other particularities.
All of these standards were time tested features of each of our documents, from brochures to technical articles, and held a great importance and function. To be able to maintain these features showed the level of detail each of us was able to display to keep errors to a minimum. Engineering is a precise field, and we as designers and editors needed to work at the same level to preserve that precision.
