About Untitled Heroes Project: A short documentary by Anna Feder
Project Goals: Create a fun, edgy design to help promote the film and for use of the titles
Time Frame: 2 months
Deliverables: Logo, t-shirt designs, poster, stickers, film title design
Director Anna Feder, came to me as production for her film, Untitled Heroes Project, was underway. The film, an homage to the long running Cambridge dance night, has been a welcoming place for the queer community as well as music nerds. She wanted to shine a light on the history of the night, it’s patrons, and the famous DJ, Chris Ewen, as a labour of love.
I used the David Bowie imagery, as the Heroes name is a reference to one of the artist’s songs, starting out with an illustration I had made and going from there. We went through a variety of iterations, but as Anna is so easy to work with, we were able to decide quickly on the best logo. We also created supporting promotional pieces to help raise funds to continue production on the film. We worked with local artisans and printers to create beautiful pieces and were able to raise enough money to have the film finished. I worked with the film’s editor to design the titles and credits.
A year later when Covid-19 hit and venues were shut down, Anna and I teamed up again to help support the Heroes crew with a new t-shirt design to raise money for the staff. This was promoted during their twitch stream on Friday nights and they sold out.
